The Observatory Neighbourhood Watch (ONW), in an effort to prevent and reduce crime in the area has received sponsored equipment from ADT Security which includes radios, reflector bibs, and magnetic decals for patrolling vehicles.

Riding down Polo Road (13:10 Wed 29 Jul) past Donne Street an Observatory resident noticed a tall black man peering over a wooden fence. Being alerted she parked her car at her home in Scott Road, collected a ONW 2-way radio and investigated the matter. Peering through the fence she saw the man at the parked vehicle inside the property and radioed the patrol coordinator for assistance.

On Monday, 27 July 2009 at about 15:00, we arrested a 22-year-old suspect in Station Road, Mowbray for a hijacking that he had allegedly been committed in Collingwood Road, Observatory on Sunday morning, 26 July 2009 at about 04:15.
The arrest follows after the police on routine patrol noticed a white Nissan Micra in Station Road, Mowbray. We tested the registration number of the vehicle which confirmed that the vehicle had been reported stolen during a hijacking in Observatory.

Two male suspects have been arrested for theft of motor vehicle today.
The arrest follows after police members on routine patrols noticed a Silver Grey Hyundia vehicle on the corners of Moderdam Road and the N2 highway.
"We tested the registration number of the vehicle which confirmed that the vehicle was reported stolen in Lytton Street, Observatory", said Segearnt Hilton Malila.
The two suspects will appear in the Cape Town Magistrates, court tomorrow on a charge of Theft of motor vehicle. |
Woodstock police arrested four suspects in Observatory for two armed robbery incidents early yesterday morning.
Two people were robbed of their cellular phones and cash at gun-point in Coetzee Street and Milton Road. Police were patrolling the area when they followed up on information of the incidents, which led to the arrests.
The suspects fled the scene in a vehicle, which led to a high speed chase. Police caught up with the men on Main Road in Observatory.
The vehicle was searched and three cellular phones and cash were recovered. Police also confiscated a firearm that was allegedly used during the robberies.
The suspects will appear in the Cape Town Magistrates' Court on Monday.
They face a charge of armed robbery. |
