Brian, a chartered accountant, settled in Observatory about five years ago after a stint of farming in the Boland - "a refugee from behind the boerewors curtain", he calls himself. He became involved in the OBSID initiative and soon found himself driving it to its successful establishment last year, when the board appointed him as OBSID manager. That's apart from being involved in the Obs Civic Association, the Obs Neighbourhood Watch, the Obs Business Forum, the Obs Community Centre, the Community Police Forum and the SA Property Rights Foundation.
Brian says what he likes most about Obs is the growing sense of community. He has never known so many people to stop and have a chat to since his school days. When he is not on duty as "mayor of Obs", Brian pursues an interest in economics, enjoys reading, bridge, tennis, social life and drinks Castle.
