David Raphael was a director of Obsid since it started operations in 2009, but resigned in November 2010.

He chaired the Safety Committee and was also active in several other committees.

As a Chartered Accounted he made a very valuable contribution to setting up the Finance and Oversight Committee and helped define its role and procudures.

David and his wife settled in Obs three years ago after falling in love with the village.
He is an accountant by trade and does some business consulting, but by far most of his time is spent on community activism.
He is chair and co-founder of the Obs Neighbourhood Watch and is also involved in the Obs Civic Association, the Obs Business Forum, the Community Police Forum and is a member of the Cape Town Press Club.
David loves the village atmosphere in Observatory and the fact that its inhabitants “are not over-interested in making money”. His regular patrols of the suburb ties with his keen interest in physical activity, which includes sailing.
David says he works towards an Observatory that is safe, clean, drug-free and quirky.
