Improvement District

A City Improvement District is a Special Rating Area established by agreement of businesses and/or residents in a particular area to ‘top up’ services provided by the City Council. The City will charge a SRA levy over and above the normal rates charges, payable by all ratepayers in the area. Among the extra services provided by a CID are security and cleansing. The OBSID  includes both a residential and a commercial component.

We welcome our two Metro Law Enforcement Officers – Nobuntu Makamba and Zolisa Libazi. Councillor Thomas has secured their services free of charge at this stage, and we are very grateful for that.

They are supervised by Inspector Wally Panday who will serve as our link through to Metro Law Enforcement and their specialised units tackling drugs, displaced people and moving traffic offences.

Essential Services have started the street cleaning service yesterday. We all know Obs is in a mess so it will take a bit of time before we get it all tidy again and it will take a bit of time before we settle into the correct routine. We do expect to use some of the extra money you have all been billed for to have an initial "spring clean" type burst.

Bazil Viljoen has been employed by Obsid as a general worker. He has been concentrating on keeping the CBD clean and we feel that it is looking better. We are making a start on cleaning up the tagging and the old posters glued to lamp-posts and so forth.
